How we research, source, and review everything we publish

Health and money decisions deserve better than guesswork. Here’s exactly where our information comes from, who writes it, how we stay independent, and how to tell us when we get something wrong.

What GetMyDr is for

The American healthcare system is confusing by default, and much of that confusion costs people money they don’t have to spend. A directory lists doctors who don’t take your plan. A bill arrives with codes nobody explains. An assistance program exists that nobody mentions.

GetMyDr exists to close those gaps. We publish free, plain-English guides and interactive tools for the practical moments: choosing a doctor, preparing for a visit, decoding a bill, understanding a plan, and getting help paying for care. Everything is free, requires no signup, and stores nothing you type.

Our editorial standards

📚
We start from primary sources

Guidance comes from original research and official bodies — Mayo Clinic, CMS, HHS, the IRS, KFF, AHRQ, and peer-reviewed journals such as JAMA — not from summarizing other blogs.

🔗
Every statistic is attributed

If we cite a number, we name where it came from in a Sources section at the end of the article, so you can verify it yourself rather than take our word for it.

🗣️
Plain English, no hedging

We explain terms rather than assuming them, give the practical next step, and say plainly when something is uncertain or varies by state or insurer.

🔄
We date and update our work

Health rules, prices, and programs change. Articles carry a published or updated date, and we revise them when laws, thresholds, or best practices shift.

🚫
No clickbait, no scare tactics

Headlines state what the article actually contains. We don’t withhold the point to force a click, and we don’t dramatize health risks for attention.

🔒
Our tools don’t collect your data

Every calculator and builder runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is transmitted, stored, or sold. Close the tab and it’s gone.

Independence — and how we pay for this

No provider pays to appear here. Doctors, hospitals, and clinics cannot buy placement, ratings, or favorable coverage on GetMyDr. We do not accept payment to recommend a provider, and we do not recommend specific providers at all — our role is to give you the information to choose for yourself.

We don’t sell insurance. We aren’t a broker and earn nothing from which plan you pick.

How the site is funded: [[GetMyDr is supported by advertising displayed on the site. Advertisers have no input into our editorial content, and ads are clearly distinguishable from articles.]] ← Edit this line to describe your actual model. If you also use affiliate links anywhere, you must disclose that here — the FTC requires it, and undisclosed affiliate links damage trust with readers and search engines alike.

How an article gets made

01
Start with a real problem

We write about the moments people actually get stuck — not keywords for their own sake.

02
Research from the source

We read the underlying study, statute, or agency guidance rather than someone’s summary of it.

03
Make it usable

Where a tool, script, or letter template helps more than prose, we build one and give it away free.

04
Check, publish, revisit

Facts are verified against sources before publishing, and articles are revised when the underlying rules change.

Corrections policy

We get things wrong sometimes, and we’d rather hear about it than not. If you spot an error — a wrong figure, an outdated rule, a broken process — email [[corrections@getmydr.com]] with the page and what’s incorrect.

We review every report. If something is materially wrong, we fix it promptly and note the update date on the article. If a correction changes the substance of our advice, we say so on the page rather than quietly editing it.

An important limit on what we do

GetMyDr publishes educational information, not medical advice. Nothing here diagnoses a condition, recommends a treatment, or replaces a conversation with a qualified clinician about your specific situation. If you’re experiencing a medical emergency, call your local emergency number.

Similarly, our billing and insurance guides are general information, not legal or financial advice. Rules vary by state, insurer, and hospital — always confirm specifics with the relevant provider, plan, or a qualified professional. See our full disclaimer.
